NOTA:
Breve reflexión sobre el idioma castellano: un español (persona) de Madrid, de
Sevilla, de Córdoba, de Granada, habla el español (idioma) con total sentido de
propiedad y libertad. Hasta las groserías suenan graciosas en su forma de
hablar pues se "pasean" en su idioma. Aquí en América Latina, en los
Andes, en Perú, en Lima; somos provincianos hablando un idioma prestado,
postizo; Seco, sin humor, lacónico, pues es un idioma que nos fue impuesto por
la conquista y por la aristocracia terrateniente y su heredera actual; la
burguesía negociante. En lo personal, me siento más cómodo, hablando inglés:
más sentido lógico, más concisión natural, más elegancia, más musicalidad de la
palabra. En fin, en este mundo posmoderno y fragmentado, cada quien defiende su
opción. P.D. traduzco por respeto a mis contactos extranjeros. (Autocrítica) Mi
padre veía noticieros y leía periódicos y no era un idiota. ¿Por qué
--entonces-- no puedo ver noticieros y leer periódicos? hace 25 años que dejé
de hacerlo, decepcionado de la prensa local.

A brief reflection on the Castilian language: a Spaniard (person) from Madrid,
Seville, Córdoba, or Granada speaks Spanish (language) with complete ownership
and freedom. Even swear words sound funny in their way of speaking; because
them "stroll" in their language. Here in Latin America, in the Andes,
in Peru, in Lima, we are provincials speaking a borrowed, artificial language;
dry, humorless, laconic, because it is a language imposed on us by the conquest
and by the landowning aristocracy and its current heir: the business
bourgeoisie. Personally, I feel more comfortable speaking English: more logical
sense, more natural conciseness, more elegance, more musicality of language. In
short, in this postmodern and fragmented world, everyone defends their choice.

My father watched the news and read newspapers, and he wasn't an idiot. Why,
then, can't I watch the news and read newspapers? I stopped doing it 25 years
ago, disappointed with the local press.
